I got a chance to sing with Stanley Jordan back in 1985. I was fifteen. “Magic Touch” had just been released, but no one knew who he was then but other musicians (though casual observers knew he was up to something as he was covered head to toe in colorful leather). Then ‘Eleanor Rigby’ made it on to the radio. Eventually, some other people knew who he was. I never saw him again (exept on David Letterman).
I was in high school. Duke Ellington School of Arts, in Georgetown, Washington, DC. I’m not sure why he was hanging out there, but I sang with his jazz band, twice. I think he was tutoring, but we were just jamming. I wish I’d paid more attention at the time, but I was 15. It was still memorable.

What was the occasion when you got to sing with him?
