Friday jazz - Lulu “Cry Me a River”

Published by tom at 11:36 pm under Music

I’ve never heard of this singer, but man what a voice! This is from a live session recorded in the Abbey Road studios with Jeff Beck, guitar, Peter King, sax, Jon Cleary, piano, and an unidentified drummer. I ran across this during one my perambulations through YouTube.

Tom: Of course you’ve heard of Lulu … you just don’t remember. Mid Sixties British pop scene … She busted the charts with “To Sir With Love” and played one of the tough girls in the landmark film with Sidney Portier. She came back on the US radar screen last TV season when she served as one of the weekly mentors/vocal coaches on American Idol.

Thanks - I do remember her now from “To Sir With Love”. I never watch American Idol so I wouldn’t have known she was on it.
